Blendtec vs Vitamix

Read the reviews, looked at prices, and decided on the Blendtec Total Blender Classic, which comes with the 5-sided Wildside jar. My poker bud and his wife have the Vitamix which is great, but a bit too large and pricey for me.

I got a refurb direct from Blendtec for $279.95 and it works extremely well, although I thought it was going to leap off the counter when I started the first smoothie today. The Vitamix has a heavier base and better balance I've heard.

Looking forward to seeing\tasting what this machine can do.

Winter League Game 25

I jumped in the Friday game last night and snagged a 3rd for the team. Mostly happy with how I played. Made another thin shove with A7o from the SB with around 12bb and got called by AK. Flop was all spades; so was the turn, and I had the ace of spades. No flush but I held with a pair of sevens.

Villain was unhappy but that's a routine shove with my stack there I think. I said in a previous post that I wasn't proud of a similar shove, but it was only the result I wasn't proud of. I could probably minraise and get away from an inferior hand, but the BB is so rarely going to show up with a good hand that I think it's a standard ICM\game theory play.

Shoved over a raise later with A4 of hearts and beat something like A9o with a runner runner flush. Thought that was the correct move as well based on my stack, and was lucky again.

Had kind of a blowup when we were down to three though. Had about 15k and minraised+ K3o from the SB, and got kind of a min 3-bet. I min 4-betted the villain to around 4k and we saw an ace-high flop with a heart draw. This is where I misplayed...

I bet just under half the pot and he jammed. Had to fold and he showed 56o (think he had a small piece of the flop)...very well played and made a strong read. He's probably the strongest player in league and is currently MVP.

I think it was possibly a mistake not to 4-bet shove preflop based on some prior action and the light 3-bet, and it was a mistake not to consider what I would do on the flop if I bet and he jammed. He doesn't have to have a great hand there to shove...just a good read and the guts to pull the trigger.

Ah well, fun stuff. Points multipliers go into effect next week, and I'm up to bat again Monday with some players I haven't seen yet. Will be taking notes for sure.

CardsChat $100k seat added

Placed 3rd of 29 tonight for a little cash. Played mostly well except a few spots where I probably should have open-shoved. Guy on my right at the final table was ruthless and routinely shoved any two from the small blind. It was like David and Goliath. I actually found a stone to throw once for a double up...AA>JJ but went mostly card-dead afterward.

Really wanted the ticket to the $100k, but would've had to win several flips to contend with the chipleaders. Didn't get to the FT with a fighting stack and was lucky to survive to 3rd.

I'm very close to crossing $2k again in the Bovada bankroll, but need a deep run in an MTT to get closer to my goal of $5k.

In other ramblings, I hope the rumors on Reddit about the DOJ stepping in to shutdown Bovada aren't true. They still have the scary banner up at Bodog though.

And hopefully someday it will be fully legal to play Texas Holdem online in Texas...ya know.

Good News\Bad News

The good news is she has Hodgkin's lymphoma and it's curable; the bad news is it will require chemo. Picc line goes in tomorrow and there will be an ekg and lung function tests to determine if she can withstand the treatment, which typically lasts 6-8 months.

It starts Monday if she gets a green light; otherwise the doc will look at alternative options.

It won't be easy, but will hopefully work.

Definitely sitting out this league season to focus on family. Going to keep studying though.

Winter League week 5 etc

Played ok today, 7th out of 15. Made a thin shove I wasn't proud of with A7s<AJo, but was hoping to pick up blinds. Battled back a bit though.

Bustout hand: Picked up KK in early pos with 13 bb or so. Raised 2.5x to 1000 and got two callers...ugh. Flop was 8Qx. I check, chipleader bets half the pot, next guy shoves. Felt like tptk so I called and had him dominated until an ace fell on the river.

Sitting out the live league game this week. Still not sure if myself and a friend are committing to the season. Based on how we both did last season it's +EV to continue, but we're trying to figure out if we might be better off playing the tournaments at Choctaw with decent structures and antes.

I so wish Winstar would change their structures on the low buyin tourneys. It's hard to justify playing even the $60 ones because the structure is so bad\fast and forces you to depend primarily on luck to win. Maybe the two free nights makes it kind of worth it, but still.

The reason why I played the $365 at WSOPC was to avoid the lousy structures at the lower buyins, and it paid off 3x ($1473, so my buyin plus $1108 profit). Can't see myself ever playing the $125s except for the 3-day donkfest with good starting stacks and a reasonable structure.

In other news, and the main reason to sit out on live league this year:

We find out what type of cancer a family member has tomorrow. Dr suspects low grade lymphoma which is treatable. In fact, I already know the drug he'll prescribe (rituxan) because I heard him give the spiel through thin walls to another patient last week- the reality of confidentiality.

Hopefully it's not something more serious. The lymph node that was visibly swollen has gone down considerably since she first noticed it, so I hope that is a good sign.

I wouldn't feel right being away even a few days a month if it's something that requires chemo. In that case League can wait, but I'll definitely miss playing cards with a great group.

RTR Free

Gone are the days of super-short fields in the RTR $500 freeroll on Bovada, but it was easy money while it lasted, lol. Racked up $460 from June through Dec of 2013 when the fields were under 50 (we're getting close to 100 now).

Was doing ok today until I lost a hand with AK of clubs. I three-bet all in and got called by JJ. I hit a flush draw on the flop but the villain nailed a set. Brick on the turn, and to my relief a club on the river.

WOOHOO!

huh?

what...?

paired the board? Seriously??

And the chips slide to the villain and yes, as a matter of fact I do look like "a man who is beaten by jacks" tyvm.

Shoved AJo very next hand and get called by the same player who had 88, and of course they hold and I'm out. Might as well give him ALL my chips.

Just another Sunday afternoon.

Went fishing with my niece for the first time in 2014. Busted there too. Apparently not my day to catch any kind of fish.

Bovada $7.5k GTD Super Stack

Good grief, the Super Stacks are long tournaments. Played for almost 6 hours. Started with a 5000 stack, was up to 300k near the end, and busted with 131k.

Went out 29th of 2,295, which is the deepest run online that I've had in a while. Unfortunately 29th paid $34.42, while first pays $1800+. Nothing I could do though- lost two flips with TT. One was an easy call that cut my stack in half. The other was an easy shove that finished me off. No regrets on either, and the small boost puts me close to $2k in the Bovada bankroll again.

Onward...

P.S. Funny that I couldn't cash in a $5.50 CC tourney with 29 players or so, but I end up cashing in a large field MTT for the same buyin. I think the reason is there were way more donkeys in that MTT than you would find in a CardsChat tourney (plus I didn't overplay as much in the MTT, lol).

Argh...JJ.

Played the CC 100k seat added on Bovada tonight and was looking good until 3-bet shoving JJ with a 20bb stack from the bb, after sb min-raised AKo. We had similar stacks.

Once again, the problem with shoving here is you're only getting called by hands that have you crushed, or you're only slightly ahead of, so you are often flipping against even lesser hands like QKo. Just call and see a flop, then re-evaluate.

My punishment:

cancer

A dear family member has been diagnosed with either lymphoma, or breast cancer cells filtered by the lymph nodes, pending further tests. Not sure what else to say except that she is a fighter and has beat many health challenges in the past, and she will beat this one too. I'm not making predictions, just saying that she wins regardless of the outcome- ace on the river style...

Already making dietary adjustments to give her the best possible chance of survival, and making sure she's spiritually ready to fight.

Let's go.

Winter League Game 12

Ugh...13th. Bluffed off half my stack (lines didn't make sense) then had a lucky double at push\fold time ATo > A8o...villain flopped an 8 but I turned a 10.

Down to 14bb or so, I shoved from the sb with QhTh and was called by a similar stack with KhJh...lol @ both cards incrementally dominated and the same suits. Both of us missed and I donated. She trusted her read and made a good call, which brings up a good point:

You can't play the same against people who have seen you turning over and winning with trash, so no one was buying it and they were right. This is no anonymous Bovada tourney, and these are good players with good memories.

Downshift, double up, upshift...and use better image-management.

CardsChat Winter League Week 2 Standings

There are some great players on my team, and we are currently in 3rd. I bombed the first week by over-playing a hand. Would have been ok but the villain flopped a set. Took a 2nd place in the 2nd week to add some actual points. Two of our guys have taken down a 1st each, and I hope to join them soon.

New 2014 League Outline

Received this from the league host. Not sure if I'll be able to join again though due to some recent family health challenges.

The one thing I don't quite like is the WSOPC part. $365 is such a low buyin that you don't really need to be "staked" in this way. It makes more sense to pay $100 each for a chance to play the main event for $1600+.

Here is 2014 season outline..
  • League Dues ~ $75.00 due no later than March Event…
  • Each event will be $30.00
  • Golden Bounty be back in 2014 $10.00
    • $5.00 for each knock out
    • Remaining pot is divided in half.  Half going towards final table and half towards golden bound winner and Final table appearances payout
  • Two tournaments per event.
  • Starting stack will be moved to $8,000…  With this change the 1st tournament will be over around 10:00pm, 2nd tournament will be over at 1:00am
  • This season we will remove your 4 lowest scores…  ~ If you miss two events your point total will not be affected…
  • Bonus points this season for each final table you make (remaining 9 players)
    • 5 points for each appearance
  • Blinding in players and points…
    • Players will can be blinded in in the event that they are late to the tournament.  If a player has asked to be blinded in and does bot arrive until after the 3 blind level his chips are removed, and the entry fee is due.  When the stake is removed points will be earned based remaining players in the tournament.
  • Player Etiquette
    • One player per hand, no providing guidance to a player on calling or folding. If you are in the hand you may talk to the other players remaining in the hand.
    • Declare your action ~ either an amount or state raise, raise must be double the original amount. if the blinds are 200 and you throw in a 1000 chip it is a 200 bet or a flat call…
    • Slow play.  We all understand at times it takes time to make a decision…  Understand that the blinds are running and we have a timeline we would like to stay under.  Please make the most your time and decision process… If a player asks for the clock you will have 60 second to make a decision, or your hand is folded.
    • Must bet or raise the nuts…
    •  We have a great group of guys, the above messages are not directed towards anyone…  Just reminders that this league is designed to improve your game and give you a solid understanding of the how the game is played in the event that you play in a WSOP event or a live cash game in any casino…
  • WSOP event in January 2015
    • If you want to enter a chance to play in a $365 WSOP Ring event.  your entry fee here is $50.  If we have 15 players that choose to take part in this that will be $750.  We will review  our point totals after the November event and the top two players in points will represent the league in a ring event…  Should the player / players reach the money round, the players that bought in for $50 will share 50% of the cash earned less taxes paid by the cashing player.  Example… Charlie is point leader after Nov, we buy his seat out of the $50 collected  He takes 4th place after taxes the prize pool would have been $30,000.  Charlie gets $15,000 and the  players who joined in (10) each get $1,500.   The prize pot for winning the event was $115,989 in 2014…  Nice pot odds…
  • White board will be set for side bets…  (Known as the “BillBoard”)
    • Bill will be setting odds on the 2014 final table…
